State of Nevada Announces Recruitment for EDUCATION PROGRAMS PROFESSIONAL – ADULT EDUCATION

The Position

Education Programs Professionals assist and foster the growth of K-12, postsecondary, and related education programs throughout Nevada by providing technical assistance, training, and oversight.

Under the leadership of the Director of the Office of Career, Technical and Adult Education (OCTAE) and the State Coordinator for Adult Education, this position is responsible for providing leadership, technical assistance and quality improvement for programs and projects assigned to the Adult Education Office, with a special emphasis on Adult High School (AHS) programs in the State of Nevada. Position responsibilities include: processing local applications; providing ongoing technical assistance to AHS program coordinators and administrators, including site visits, as needed, to ensure compliance and continuous improvement; conducting annual monitoring to verify compliance with state policies, regulations and laws; developing and implementing system changes to ensure continuous improvement in AHS education programs; preparation of annual reports to document data and performance; and administration of state funding. The Education Programs Professional will be responsible for oversight and management of Corrections Education and Alternative Education programs throughout the State. Position responsibilities will also include assignments to support the development and administration of Adult Basic Education programs and GED testing, to include grants management. Special attention will be directed to expand the reporting and accountability for adult learners across the state.

Jennifer Keiser

Jennifer Keiser, Adult Education Coordinator – GED Chief Examiner at the Clark County School District is the newest addition to Nevada Adult Educators’ Board of Directors. An (upstate) New Yorker, Jennifer graduated from Broome Community College with two A.A.S. degrees in Business Marketing and Nursing. She then received her B.S. degree from Binghamton University in Human Development. After a career in business and nursing, she decided it was time for a change and received certification and a master’s degree from Marywood University in Scranton, PA in the field of Special Education. She has taught in New York, California and Nevada in various fields of special education. After spending nine years in the classroom, she obtained her administrative endorsement through UNLV and began working at CCSD in 2009.

Drawing on her extensive background, Jennifer finds her work with adults challenging, yet rewarding at the same time. “Students come to our department from all walks of life with all types of needs. It is gratifying knowing that I can assist students in fulfilling educational goals and dreams so they may continue on with post secondary education and/or gainful employment.”

Teri Zutter

Teri Zutter, a Board member since NAE’s inception in 2007, has agreed to serve as Secretary. Teri came to adult education from the ground floor: She received her GED in 1986 began tutoring math at the community college level in 1990 and subsequently taught English as a Second Language, Adult Basic Education, GED Preparation and United States Citizenship Preparation classes.

She served as MPAEA President in 2006-2007 and is a popular presenter in Nevada and at regional conferences. She has been the Director of the Adult Literacy and Language Program at Western Nevada Community College in Carson City since 2000.

The Media Library of Teaching Skills
for adult learning and literacy

The Media Library of Teaching Skills for adult learning and literacy project is a free, online, digital library of short videos of adult education teachers and their classes or tutorials, intended for use in professional development. Each video is an example of a state-approved content standard, research-based practice, preferred approach, or specific teaching method or skill. In some cases these are examples in practice of a particular state’s approved curriculum frameworks or content standards. The project began in March, 2007, and has grown as new videos are added to the online library.
