Call for Presentations for MPAEA Conference hosted by UAACCE. April 11-13, 2017 at the downtown Radisson in Salt Lake City.

You are invited to submit proposal for presentation for the Mountain Plains Adults Education Association (MPAEA) Conference, hosted by Utah Association for Adult, Community, and Continuing Education (UAACCE). Join our colleagues from Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana. Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming in sharing your research, successful strategies, and contributions to successful student achievement.

 

Proposals for Presentations:

 

The MPAEA mission statement is to support and promote lifelong learning in the Mountain Plains Region (Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Utah, Wyoming, and beyond). In order to achieve its mission, the association:

-Promotes and provides professional development opportunities for adult educators

-Publishes and distributes relevant information about lifelong learning.

-Supports and strengthens member associations within the states of the region.(www.mpaea.org)

 

The mission statement for UAACCE, as the primary advocate for lifelong learning in Utah, is to meet the diverse needs of all Utahns by providing and supporting quality educational opportunities. (www.uaacce.org)

 

The Conference Committee invites presentation that share expertise and insights to further the shared objectives of our organizations.

 

We welcome proposals from faculty, researchers, program administrator, materials and curriculum developers, and other professional educators with interest in such areas as cognition, reading, writing, math, English as a Second Language, learning disabilities, assessment, learning/study/motivation strategies, counseling, corrections education, computer and online instructions, partnerships, legislative issues, pathways, and student transition to future work and study.

 

Each session will be 60 minutes, with concurrent sessions being offered.

 

Conference Theme: Everyone Counts: Keys to Education, Motivation, and Success

Conference Cost: $300, Early Bird Special of $250 (due by March 1, 2017)

Dr. Robert Henry Receives MPAEA Award of Merit

Mountain Plains Adult Education Association has awarded the 2015 MPAEA Award of Merit to Dr. Robert (Bob) Henry. Dr. Henry is the Director of Adult Education for the Clark County School District and President of Nevada Adult Educators. The award is to honor one individual who has made an outstanding contribution towards furthering the concept of adult education as a process continuing throughout life.  This award is the highest award given by MPAEA.  Only one recipient is selected each year.  Nevada Adult Educators is led by an extremely professional and respected adult educator.  NAE is so fortunate to have his leadership and wisdom.  Big congratulations to Dr. Henry!

Scholarships Available for COABE/MPAEA/CAEPA Conference

MPAEA LogoMountain Plains Adult Education Association is offering a wonderful scholarship opportunity for its members to attend the upcoming Commission On Adult Basic Education, Mountain Plains Adult Education Association, and Colorado Adult Professional Education Association’s Annual Conference, April 21-24, 2015, in Denver, Colorado.

This one-time stipend of $200.00 will be used to help defray the cost of attending the annual MPAEA conference.

MPAEA Offers Scholarships for 2011 Conference

COABE 2011 Conference

As a membership benefit, the Mountain Plains Adult Education Association will provide the conference registration fee for 24 MPAEA members to attend the joint COABE/MPAEA/CCAE to be held April 17 – 20, 2011 in San Francisco. The MPAEA 2011 Conference Scholarship will pay for conference registration fees only, are not to exceed $325, and may not be used for pre-conference fees, tours or side trips. The applicant must be working in an MPAEA member state and must be a current member of MPAEA.

MPAEA continues to offer two additional scholarship opportunities, based on available funding:

  • Memorial Scholarship for Graduate Studies: Up to $1000 annually to a graduate student enrolled in a graduate degree program in adult education or closely related field or in a college or university located in one of the eight Mountain Plains member states. To be eligible, a member must be appropriately enrolled in a graduate program and a member of MPAEA for the past calendar year.
  • Teacher Innovation Scholarship: Up to $250 annually for creative ways to reach students. The intent of this flexible scholarship is to supplement direct instruction to students. Applicant must be working in an MPAEA member state and be a member of MPAEA (may submit a membership application along with the scholarship application).

Arizona, host of MPAEA 2010: Mining the Treasures in Adult Education” recently released many details for the annual conference. At www.mpaea2010.org you’ll find a conference overview, schedule-at-a-glance, and information about the Fiesta Resort Conference Center in Tempe. You can register online or print hard copy for mail-in registration.

NAE members Kim Forney (Humboldt County School District), Joy Zimmerman and Gail Hettich (TMCC), and Teri Zutter and Angela Andrade (WNC) will be presenting. (Anyone else out there? Let us know!)

Nevada Adult Educators will meet Thursday from 5-6 p.m.
